
GPS Pros
-Children, mentally challenged adults, and criminals can be tracked by using a GPS. People will not be able to get lost or flee as easily.
-Some GPS receivers feature an 911 call for help.
-If there is a car accident it is possible for help to locate you.
-GPS receivers can help you find where you need to go.
-Allows car rentals to make sure cars are where they are supposed to be.
-Allows systems such as Lo-Jack to locate your stolen/missing car,computer, or phone.
GPS Cons
-There is a lack of privacy. People can be tracked unknowingly by someone intending them harm.
-Lack of laws make invasion of privacy that is legal.
-Parents can use a GPS instead of keeping watch on their children like they should.
-People hiking or mountain climbing sometimes assume that they can be found because they have a GPS, but in reality many conditions make their GPS not work.
-May violate the 4th amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures due to the ability to locate people even in private homes where one would not expect to be followed.
-GPS systems in phones are mini computers. They can be hacked and used not only to locate people, but also to access any information (text messages, photos, etc) on your phone.
-Can invade privacy by keeping a log of where the GPS travels and can track how fast it is going.
